About
Nike designer Tinker Hatfield was said to have been influenced by the Centre Pompidou when creating the Air Max 1. The Paris landmark—which famously has all of its plumbing, air ducts and wiring on the building’s exterior—inspired Hatfield to expose the Air unit on the pioneering sneaker, a move that has been commemorated in the 'Centre Pompidou by Day' edition of the 1987 original. The suede and leather upper is lined with red, yellow and green details that mimic the external piping of the iconic structure, while a multicolored pattern and ‘P’ emblem cover the translucent sole.
